Director, Data Engineering
The Director, Data Engineering, reporting to the VP, Digital, Data & AI will enable the continued growth and success of the enterprise by delivering a scalable, secure, and well-governed data ecosystem. This role is accountable for data engineering delivery, data architecture, data quality, and cloud data platforms that support enterprise analytics, AI, and reporting capabilities.
The Director will lead multiple teams and/or managers and operate effectively in a matrixed, agile environment, partnering closely with business and IT leaders to translate enterprise strategy into scalable, reliable data capabilities. This role will work across business leaders, product owners, architects, and engineering teams to drive data architecture, master data management (MDM), data governance, and cloud platform strategy and operations. In addition to strategic initiatives, the Director will own oversight of Business as Usual (BAU) data operations, ensuring platform stability, performance, and continuous improvement.
Essential Functions & Requirements:
- Prioritize health and safety by adhering to policies/processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times
- Defines, owns, and evolves the enterprise data architecture and platforms supporting Analytics and AI, aligned to business growth and digital transformation priorities
- Champions enterprise data governance, master data management, and data quality initiatives to elevate trust, consistency, and usability of data
- Maintains accountability for teams responsible for data pipeline engineering, data architecture, data quality, and cloud data platforms
- Establishes and enforces architectural standards, reference architectures, and best practices for enterprise analytics and data platforms
- Owns BAU operational performance while driving modernization and continuous improvement of Data Lake and Data Warehouse platforms, including quality, reliability, and performance monitoring
- Develops and governs business glossaries to enable consistent understanding of data across business domains
- Partners with technology, security, and business leadership to ensure data platforms meet compliance, security, and risk management requirements
- Mentors and develops leaders within the data organization, building a strong succession pipeline and high-performing culture
- Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field (required)
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience designing and building enterprise data warehouse and analytics platforms (DWH/EDW) (required)
- 5+ years of experience building and managing cloud-based data platforms and architectures such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Snowflake, etc. (required)
Competencies:
- Strong working knowledge of SQL and data integration patterns across major enterprise platforms (Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server, Salesforce, SAP, etc.)
- Proven ability to lead through influence in complex, matrixed, and agile environments
- Demonstrated effectiveness operating in fast-paced, M&A-heavy, evolving enterprise environments
- Regular and predictable attendance to perform the functions and requirements of this role
