Technology Specialist
As the Technology Specialist you will be responsible for supporting the processing of current explosive waste streams. This role will conduct research and development of new processes and technologies not currently in place that are required to treat new and existing explosive waste streams, as well as new non-explosive streams at Arcwood facilities. The Technology Specialist will also assist Sales and Marketing by participating in the Waste Approval Process, conducting site visits as required and serving as a technical liaison for customers.

These activities must be carried out in a manner that is safe to human health and the environment, and compliant with Federal, State, and Local regulations.

Essential Functions & Requirements:

Production Support:

  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times
  • Assists with maximizing product flow efficiency through Company facilities to ensure explosive waste is processed effectively for incineration or other destruction methods
  • Serves as the process specialist for process issues, improvements, and changes
  • Leads on-site R&D and new business opportunities to develop dismantling and disposal of new waste streams, including demilitarization activities for munitions requiring disposal
  • Maintains responsibility for leading the generation of work instructions for all operations on site
  • Participates in TRT, MACT and other Company facility meetings to ensure proper waste processing and destruction in a manner that is safe to human health and the environment

Marketing Support:

  • Assists Arcwood Proposals with bids for material going into Company facilities or partnership locations, including pricing for demilitarization activities prior to disposal of explosive hazardous waste material
  • Reviews and assists with Company facilities' incoming waste streams to ensure conformance with operations specifications such as: waste profile requirements, special packing requirements, historical receipt characteristics, and intended processing methods
  • Visits customer sites and/or participates in calls with Sales for large and/or problematic waste streams
  • Assists with customer audit packages and facility tours at Arcwood facilities as needed

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a specialist for explosives processing and destruction at all Arcwood facilities and/or partnership locations
  • Performs hands-on disassembly of off-normal munitions on site when necessary
  • Aids in the training and understanding of explosive handling, explosive disposal, and explosive disassembly
  • Maintains the ability for moderate travel to customers sites as needed
  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or related technical field (required)

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience specifically in explosives disposal (required) -OR-
  • 10+ years of experience in a related field (required)
  • Explosive Ordnance Disposal experience (preferred)

Competencies:

  • Expertise in the handling, treatment and disposal of explosive and non-explosive materials
  • Critical-thinking skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical and safety-related information to internal and external stakeholders
  • Regular and predictable attendance to perform the functions and requirements of this role
