Plant Operations Manager
As a Plant Operations Manager you will be responsible for leading operations for an industrial waste treatment facility, including safe and compliant practices, financial performance and customer satisfaction. This 24/7 facility employs approximately 280 team members.
Essential Functions & Requirements:
- Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times
- Ensures operations are compliant with all Federal, State and Local regulations and Company policies
- Interviews, trains, mentors, evaluates performance and disciplines employees in accordance with Corporate Human Resources programs
- Reviews production processes and schedules to plan facility operations; establishes priorities and sequences to ensure productivity and quality
- Establishes production goals and resolves operational and maintenance-related issues to ensure minimal costs and to prevent delays
- Develops and/or revises standard operating procedures
- Troubleshoots treatment processes by utilizing chemistry principles and waste treatment knowledge
- Establishes production metrics and monitors progress via reporting to ensure continued goal achievement for the business unit
- Facilitates strong relationships between inter-plant and Corporate departments
- Prepares and performs audits on mandatory reporting related to all functional departments within the facility
- Monitors the cost of operations on a regular basis to ensure proper pricing and profitability
- Assists in developing the yearly operational budget and manages conformance to the budget by relevant departments
- Determines waste disposal options (acceptability and pricing) with Corporate Approvals; addresses physical and analytical issues surrounding non-conforming waste materials received
- Assists with proposal development; attends pre-bid meetings, assists with cost estimation and program planning, and provides technical support for Corporate groups as needed
- Reviews and manages departmental expenses including P&L, disposal billing and timesheet approvals, etc.
- Continuously monitors facility operations and programs for compliance and efficiency improvements
- Leads effective response to emergency situations, including the timely notification of reportable incidents, response actions, and removal of residues and replacement of supplies
- Assists in incident and near-miss investigations, identifies root and contributing causes and coordinates corrective measures and follow-up actions
- Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
Education:
- Bachelor's degree (required); within an engineering or science-related discipline (preferred)
Experience:
- 5+ years of hazardous waste operations and/or chemical operations experience (required) -OR-
- In lieu of degree, 9+ years of hazardous waste operations and/or chemical operations experience (required)
- Previous supervisory experience (required)
- Foundational P&L understanding (required)
- Technical experience with chemical-related equipment and/or processes (preferred)
Competencies:
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
- Thorough knowledge of all Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations pertaining to the environmental services industry
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and motivate employees; strong safety leadership orientation
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong software/computer abilities specifically within the Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including a respirator
- Regular and predictable attendance to perform the essential functions and requirements of this role
